Not sure if I have that figured out yet. I am a forever work in progress, but the most important thing I have ever done in my life, is parent. My children, now teens, taught me how to be a better HUMAN.
They taught me how to look beyond all the textbooks and expert advice (& I was one of them!) and get to know each of them as unique thinkers with unique brains... they taught me how to change how I "thought" about behaviors and what I "thought" they might be communicating.
I'll admit, I was once a hard "behaviorist" teaching about compliance more than building relationships. My kids taught me what those textbooks and graduate school classes didn't. Most times "behaviors" are not really what they seem and they are not always what others often think it is. I definitely feel different about the phrase, "They are just attentions seeking"... Like it is a bad thing. Kids deserve attention, so if they are seeking it... GIVE IT.
I truly believe WE ALL need to Change Our Lens about behavior: changing how we think about behavior will change how we parent, how we teach, how we support, and how we love our kids.

I have a couple of degrees, if that matters to you; a Master’s Degree in Special Education and Bachelor’s degree in Sociology. And I am also a Washington State Certified Counselor and Nationally Certified with PCIT International as a Parent-Child Interaction Therapist and Trainer. Yes, a compliance based system... but phase 1 is like magic so I still use that all. the. time.
I have held titles such as Special Education Teacher, School Administrator, and Counselor for almost 30 years. (wow, shocked myself when I did the math!) And I have helped hundreds of children and families over the years... probably more than I even realize.
I have worked in a variety of settings; home-based services, residential settings, with families involved in the child welfare system and in foster homes. I have worked in both public, alternative, and private schools, as a teacher trainer and as a private consultant for mental health providers.
I started my private practice in 2019 and love doing things differently than the mainstream, in collaboration with my clients and their children.
Favorite job yet: Parent Coach

I am not just anything...
I have a lot of stories to share, about raising two neurodivergent children, as well as stories about children and parents I have worked with over the years before and after having children.
You see, I am not just passionate about helping parents of Neurodivergent kids and kids with challenging behaviors because of my parenting experiences. I also worked with children like mine for 12 years passionately before having any children. Parenting just took it to another level!
Parenting a child with challenging behaviors, helped me gain an understanding I never had before... living with those challenges 24/7 is very different from teaching it 6 hours a day or counseling it an hour a week.
However, I am also not just a parent either. I also bring in my years of knowledge, experience, training, and education... and that definitely helped me along the way.
I also love the outdoors, live music in most genres, and visiting with friends over coffee or the occasional adult beverage.
Most of all, I love seeing the A-Ha moments, with my kids especially, but also with anyone else.
I always bring 100% me to all that I do.
I bring my parenting experience,
my experience as teacher, administrator and counselor.
And I bring ME... A little quirky, a lot compassionate,
and I sometimes talk too much.
